Coastal brigantine – 1880 era –freighter into the North Sea into Sweden, Norway and Denmark as a coal carrier.
The Model

Ed’s first plank-on-frame and scratch built model, built from keel up, containing 43 frames, using H.A. Underhill plans obtained from Scotland. The original plans were 1/8” scale enlarged to 3/16” scale, with proportional dividers that Ed built, for this model.
The hull is bass wood with Philippine mahogany rails, water ways, hatch covers and cabin trim. Birch, black walnut and cherry wood used on spars, with tops of mast and spars, capstan and gallows in rosewood. All iron work, yard arm cranes, whisker booms, pumps, parrals, dolphin strikers, spar bands, sheaves are handmade. All dead eyes, etc., are assembled with threaded nuts and bolts and all rigging is workable. Decks are planked to size with black paper joints to simulate the original ship.
The dinghy is complete with all necessary equipment and parts. The scroll work and names are hand-carved out of box wood. Sky lights and windows are of Plexiglas.
