About the Artist:

Robert Salmon (Anglo-American) (1775-1844)

Scottish Robert Salmon combined the romantic and the documentary style in his paintings of the harbors of Scotland’s west coast and the Liverpool area of England between 1800 and 1828 and established a studio at the end of the Marine Railway Wharf overlooking the Boston Harbor. He worked in that area for the next 13 years. He was probably self-taught as an artist. He developed a unique crispness and clarity in his carefully crafted style. His paintings document historical details of harbors in the early 1800’s.
