Thomas Wells (American) (1916-2004)
Thomas Wells was born in 1916. He graduated from Yale with an art degree in 1942 and joined the Navy. After the war, he became a technical illustrator for the Naval Underwater Weapons Systems Command. He started painting full time in 1972 and has had several very successful one-man shows.
Wells sailed on Passat as a hand in 1939 and his painting shows her leaving Copenhagen for Australia. He also recorded the voyage with a movie camera showing the rough passage around Cape Horn.
